Vineyard and winery news
Spring has sure been kind to us here at the vineyard. The early growing season has unfolded beautifully, with just one major downpour of rain but lovely warm and sunny conditions. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have finished flowering and other varieties are following suit. The fruit set looks good and the vines are in a nice balance for this stage of the season.
Our vineyard team has been busy with shoot thinning and setting up the vines, ensuring we are set for a great remainder of the season. Our young blocks of Gamay and Chardonnay are thriving, receiving plenty of love and attention from the team.
In the winery, we've been focused on blending and bottling the 2024 1314 wines and we are very excited to share these wines with you today. As always our 1314 wines offer instant appeal, plenty of character, and exceptional value, perfect for festive occasions or summer drinking when you want something enjoyable and approachable. These are probably the best releases under the 1314 label yet.
We were very proud to receive a mention in the James Halliday Wine Companion Top 100 Wineries of Australia at number 34. We've also received a lot of great recent press which is listed in the News & Reviews section of the website if you want to go deeper.
Our tasting notes
1314 Chardonnay 2024
The 2024 vintage delivers plenty of classic Chardonnay character, with a strong sense of Bannockburn site expression, all at great value for money. The nose opens with vibrant citrus, fresh pastry, grilled peach, and a touch of wild honey. On the palate, the wine is fleshy and round, yet well-balanced. Flavours are dominated by stone fruit, complemented by hints of crème brûlée and subtle smoky oak. The finish is tight, with crisp acidity and a lick of salinity that extends the length.
1314 Pinot Noir 2024
The 2024 Pinot Noir offers a complex and layered nose. It begins with dark red fruits, earthy autumnal notes, and a touch of bunchy spice. Subtle hints of cola and liquorice add depth, along with some serious, well-integrated and high quality oak. On the palate, the wine is elegant yet full-flavoured – a powerful expression of Pinot Noir with fine, firm tannins. This wine offers a lot of character and quality for the price, and is thoroughly enjoyable to drink as it opens with time.
1314 Shiraz 2024
The 2024 Shiraz is a new wine to the range, and is making a bold statement out of the gates. It shows a striking, vibrant inky purple and crimson hue. The nose is expressive, with upfront aromas of black and red fruits, layered with hints of blue fruit, spicy clove, and anise. It’s unmistakably cooler climate Shiraz, yet retains intensity and weight, offering a kaleidoscope of aromas that lead into equally complex flavours. On the palate, savoury notes of meat and olive are complemented by high-toned, pure fruit characters. While rich in flavour intensity, the wine maintains freshness, clarity, and a firm yet fine tannin structure.
1314 Rosé 2024
The 2024 Rosé offers refreshment and immediate enjoyment, but also interest and complexity. Pink grapefruit, Campari and tonic, orange pith and red apple are present on the nose. On the palate strawberry, and cream flavours, apple skin crunch, aromatic spices all inter play, along with orange zest bitterness which leaves the palate feeling clean, dry and ready for the next sip.
Wishing you festive cheer, great food, and excellent wine!
Cheers,
Bannockburn Vineyards
