New wine to the range... 1314 Shiraz 2024
Jan 13, 2025
Our 1314 label highlights our wines in their youthful, ‘nouveau’ stage through an early bottling regime and accelerated release schedule. The goal is to craft delicious, well-priced wines that are ready to enjoy in the same year they are picked. These wines deliver immediate appeal while retaining the signature Bannockburn character-perfect for the warmer months and into the new year.
Despite their youthful charm, these wines receive the same meticulous care in the vineyard and cellar as all our others, with all fruit sourced exclusively from our vineyards. The key distinction is that 1314 wines do not rely on extended ageing.
New to the range this year, the 1314 Shiraz makes a striking debut with its distinctive style. Unlike our Bannockburn Shiraz-which spends 18 months in the cellar and at least 6 months in bottle before release-the 1314 Shiraz offers a fresher, more immediate expression of our vineyards. Vibrant and approachable, it delivers exceptional drinking at an excellent price point, offering an early glimpse into the vintage’s Shiraz quality.
The wine’s youth is evident in its striking appearance—a bright, vibrant, inky purple-crimson. Aromas of black and red fruits take centre stage on the nose, supported by hints of blue fruits, spicy clove, and anise. This is unmistakably a cool-climate Shiraz. The palate is equally impressive, showcasing savoury notes of meat and olive, balanced by high-toned, pure fruit flavours. It offers a generous mouthfeel while maintaining freshness, clarity, and fine yet firm tannins.
All fruit was handpicked, fully destemmed, and fermented with indigenous yeast. The wine spent seven days on skins before pressing, then matured for seven months in oak, 10% of which was new.
Early reviews from Halliday’s Wine Companion and The Wine Front have been overwhelmingly positive.
95 points. Made from fruit grown on the Winery Block at Bannockburn and matured in hogsheads (10% new). I doubt I'll taste too many better under $30 shiraz wines this year (or next) than this! A bright, medium crimson purple, this has an impressive core of dark fruits, lifted floral and white pepper notes and a little tapenade. It's equally impressive on the medium-bodied, spicy and well-balanced palate. Drink now and over the next 2–3 years. Philip Rich, winecompanion.com.au.
93 points. This is perfectly pitched for the Bannockburn shiraz drinker. Or indeed for the cool climate shiraz drinker in general. It’s sweet with fruit but laced liberally with twig, stalk, herb and undergrowth characters. It has a meaty, peppery edge too. It’s juicy up front but it pushes confidently through the finish, and all the way along the line it feels both pleasing and satisfying. We’re in very good territory here. Value? Wow, yes, absolutely. Campbell Mattinson, winefront.com.au.
Priced at $27 per bottle, with 10% off for a dozen, this wine delivers outstanding value. With just 300 dozen produced, it won’t last long!
