It is planted at 1.2m x 1.2m spacing (6,944 vines\/hectare) with MV6 clone Pinot Noir on its own roots. This is likely the oldest high-density planting of Pinot Noir in Australia. With north-south row orientation and a complex soil profile of mixed clay over weathered basalt and limestone, it is naturally low-yielding. This vineyard is responsible for some of our finest, most powerful, and long-lived Pinot Noir wines.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eWinemaking\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHandpicked fruit was fermented in open-top fermenters, with a portion of whole cluster layered through the ferments. The wine spent 12 days on skins before being pressed to French oak hogsheads, of which 40% was new. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally, and the wine remained untouched, on lees, through maturation for 10 months prior to blending and bottling.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eTasting Note\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDark cherry, plum, dried herbs, exotic spice and beautifully integrated oak introduce a wine of remarkable depth and texture. The palate is concentrated yet refined: tightly structured, with firm, fine-grained tannins and real concentration, Serré's high-density planting delivering immense depth while retaining freshness, precision and balance. Fresh acidity carries the wine through to a defined, focused finish, the warmth of the season lending intensity without sacrificing clarity. Structured and refined, this is one of the most complete wines we have made from this historic vineyard, with the depth to age and the balance to reward decades of cellaring.
